ICE
DIVING 2003.
Ice
diving is one of the most demanding diving disciplines.
The winter 2003 was very good for training and executing
such dives. Several times we went to the frozen Ada Ciganlija
Lake and made numerous exciting dives.
It all begins with theory lessons about hypothermia, suitable
equipment and diving techniques. One of the most important
thing is to learn how to dive in an overhead environment.
Special exercises are done in the swimming pool.
The air temperature
was between -15 and -5 degree C. The ice cower was between
15 and 20 cm thick. The first step is to dig a triangular
hole in the ice. A very exhausting exercise.
Than the dive is executed following a exact diveplan. One
surface support diver has a very responsible task to handle
the guide line. A second so called reserve diver is kited
up and in every moment if necessary ready to go.
