THE
WELL OF CRNI DRIM
During the summer excursion 2002 we had the opportunity
to visit the well of Beli Drim. This river, that empties
into the Ohrid Lake, got this name because of the incredibly
clear water. Like natural phenomena it is put under protection
of the UNESCO.
This clear cold water is a habitat of many endemic species
of animals and plants.
It is strongly forbidden to swim or dive in this water.
Thanks to our friend Micun from Ohrid we were given a permission
to dive in this waters and to make a unique underwater film
and many photographs.
As a sign of good will we gave this film as a present to
our friend Micun. We ware happy that we can come back home
with many nice memories.
We spent the
trip from Ohrid to St. Naum in a discussion about what we
have to expect and what will be the proper technique for
diving. We have been told to take good care not to silt
and not to disturb the environment.
Arriving at the dive site it became clear to us way we where
told all this.
The only way to cruise along the river was in a float with
out a motor and with a skipper.
We felt a little bit unpleasant taking our equipment out
of the car. We had the filing that we have not cleaned our
diving suits well.
During the cruise we noticed that the water has to be weary
cold. End of August the air temperature was somewhere about
30 degree. The average depth of the river was about 2m.
For divers not a weary interesting, but after we entered
the water a whole new world opened to us. The horizontal
visibility was greater than 70m. This was the clearest water
we ever dove. Comparing to this our swimming pool was a
swamp.
